With the help of my mentor Kris Hunter, Director of Programs for ASF in Nova Scotia and PEI, as well as my project leader Clare Kellock and the team at Coastal Action I've been able to start to make this idea a reality. Having a firm knowledge of salmon in general is crucial to this project. Being able to then apply these ideas in a more specific innovative way is the fun part!
My work starts with getting as comfortable as I can with salmon scales, being able to read them for an age and understand what makes them the way they are. The next steps involve comparing wild and aquaculture salmon scales at a more measurable level. By doing this we hope to create an accurate formula on how to read a scale for it's origin.
